The Impossible Egg Crush Experiment (like what we did in class today)

If your children come home today talking all about how we tried to crush eggs in our hands today, this video might give you some perspective about the experiment we did today.

The purpose was learning about the shape of the egg, and how it is designed to hold up against pressure (like the mother hen sitting on it) without cracking.  Many of the students guessed that they COULD crack the egg, but only 1 student was actually able to.  The kids really liked it when one of the parents was able to crack her egg, and the mess splattered all over me!!

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this video, and maybe do a followup at home where you let your child recreate the experiment, and explain to you what it going on.  Have a great weekend!!

The Little Chick Company - It All Starts With An Egg - For Kids

Today we watched this video from Australia about eggs.
Feel free to watch it again and ask your children what they have learned about eggs.
-Are the eggs we eat "fertilized" or "unfertilized" eggs?
-What does "fertilize" mean?
-What are the 3 types of eggs shown in the video?
-How many eggs to chickens lay each week?

Have fun!!

Let's Try Homework in a NEW way!

Spring is Here!
With it comes newness.  New plants and animals.  New sights and smells.  In our class, comes a new way to try homework.  I sent a copy of this digital form home with each of the students, but if you touch on the link here, you should be able to access the links in it digitally.

Students are given choices over what they want to accomplish each day.  Some of the items repeat (but the students should only do the activity once).  I'm looking forward to feedback from all of you on how this new style compares to the traditional packets we have been doing all year.

I hope that you family enjoys this.  Happy Spring!
