Make Dinosaur Eggs

*Inspired from an idea found on Pinterest, posted by Jen Goode.

Materials Needed:                How to Make Dinosaur Eggs:

*Dirt    (1 – 1½ cups)           *Mix together dirt, flour, salt and sand.
*Flour  (1 – 1½ cups)           *Slowly stir in water to create a
*Salt   (¾ cup)                        doughy, clay-like texture.
*Sand  (½ cup)                     *Mold the dough around one of the
   *Water                                    plastic dinosaurs.
*Plastic Dinosaurs                 *Let the eggs dry thoroughly.
(This may take a few days).

When hard and dry, let your little Paleontologist try and “unearth” their dinosaurs!!  Use paintbrushes, toothbrushes, or any other delicate tool that a real paleontologist might use to protect the specimens.

Send in the pics so we can post them on our class blog!

Here Adam is creating the dinosaur egg fossil.

Now Adam is using his Paleontology skills to carefully unearth his dinosaur.

Next Week's At-Home Project: Make an Underwater Viewer

Let your child explore and investigate underwater life, just like a Marine Biologist. Nearly all kids love the water and the beach, and this craft allows them think about marine life and imagine how organisms interact with their environment. She'll get to bring the beach into her own home while honing her observational skills.

This week's At-Home Project: Plate Bugs

This week we are starting a new unit on Amazing Animals.  Our first focus is on bugs, and more specifically Beetles.  We will be reading about Beetles in class, learning how to tell if a bug is a beetle, and how to sort and classify pictures of various beetles, bugs, and other animals.

This week I will be providing each student with a paper plate.  Their task is to transform that paper plate into a bug of their own creation.  Color the plate, Paint the Plate, Cut, Glue, Glitter, Bend, etc. the plate to make it look like the beetle or bug of your choosing.  We will share the plates on Friday, then hang them up in the classroom until we leave for Spring Break.  Feel free to use these images as a guide to start your creativity!
