Capacity

Today in math we explored Capacity.  The kids had a lot of fun with this lesson and wanted to do more with it at home.  Here is a short video with some simple ideas of things you can try at home to work with capacity.  I recommend using food coloring to make the water easier to view when moving from a smaller container into a larger one.  Enjoy!!

Want to give your child a gift that will be fun all Spring and Summer long???

Check out the Sacramento RiverCats Kids Club.  For $10 your child will get a cool t-shirt, and tickets to every Sunday home game for the 2019 season.  It is an unbelievable deal that I have personally done for my son since he was three years old.  They get to sit out in the grass, interact with players, play in the Kid's Zone, get some autographs, run the bases after the game, and oh yeah...watch a minor league baseball game (they are the Giants AAA team, so sometimes you get to see big names playing down in a rehab assignment).  I don't normally solicit for companies, but I believe this is a great gift to put in your child's stocking if they like baseball, or if your family just likes getting out on the weekends and having a good time together.  Check out the link for more information, or stop by and ask me, I would be happy to share our family's experiences (like Skylar getting to go on the field and sit in the dugout, or say "Let's Play Ball!" on the PA system to start a game).  The last few years we have even given Kids Club memberships to Skylar's friends for Christmas so they could go to the games together.

KIDS REACT TO WALKMANS (Portable Cassette Players)

Today we began our unit on Science and Technology.  Our primary focus is on technology at home and school, and comparing how things were 100 years ago, to how they are now.  Over the past 100 years, technology has changed just about every aspect of our everyday lives.  A fun way of introducing this concept was to show this video of children reacting to old technology...the walkman!

Check it out for yourself, and if you have any old tech that you would like to bring in and share with the class, please message me so we can set up a time to do our own "Kids React" lesson in the class.  Last year we got to explore an old "Box" TV, a Commodore 64 computer, a record player, a GameBoy, a VCR, and an old camcorder from the 1980's.  The students had a lot of fun with it, and it was very interesting to hear them hypothesize how this old technology might have been used.

This is a fun unit, and I hope that you can share a nostalgic walk down memory lane with the technology that you held onto in the attic, garage, or closet.  -Mr. Linnet

Coyotes on the Run - FUN RUN event on October 17th!!

To: Classroom Parents
When: Team Day 1
Subject: Help our class!

Parents,

Our class is having a blast preparing for the Coyotes on the Run Fun Run coming up soon! We've also begun to learn how to solve problems using character through Boosterthon's character theme, MindSpark Mystery Lab. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, your students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world. Make sure to ask your students what they've learned each day, and together you can watch the story unfold on funrun.com!

Remember, we need your help connecting to sponsors who can make a pledge to help our school! Please make sure all pledges for the Coyotes on the Run Fun Run are entered on funrun.com. The more pledges we get, the more incentives our class earns on our Pledge-O-Meter.

Thank you for your generosity and support of our school. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a great day!

P.S. Make sure to register your child on funrun.com. Use our school registration code: 713924

Six Flags Field Trip was AMAZING!!

We had so much fun getting a tour of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA yesterday and learning all about some amazing ocean animals.  We saw a seal, a sea lion, some penguins, a walrus, some sharks, and some dolphins.  The presenters were fantastic and shared some really interesting facts about each animal, and we even learned about conservation and how we can help the animals that live in the ocean by reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics and other materials that can find its way into the trash.

Jump Rope for Heart Starts NOW!!!

Hello Everyone!  Just wanted to share with you that we are starting the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser at Cordelia Hills.  It runs from January 16 - February 7.  Parents go online to register their child, then you start fundraising for the American Heart Association.  On February 7th, we will have a Jump-a-thon to finish off the event.  It's a lot of fun, and a great cause!

Read the pamphlets that went home, talk with your child about ways they can be "Heart Healthy", and help raise money for education and research.  Your children can also earn some cool prizes!
Let's try to be the first class to get all students registered.  Just click the link below and setup your child's registration page.  Thanks!!

I'm also including it in homework this month as an easy homework assignment that helps you learn an essential life skill.  Happy New Year!!
