Check out ABCya.com for great learning games!
Hey Parents,
I've had this program in the LINKS section on the blog for awhile now, but if you haven't checked it out yet you really should. It's full of resources that your child can use throughout their years at Cordelia Hills. I recommend exploring the K and 1st grade programs and see which ones are best for your child's current skill levels.

Fact or Opinion for Kids
We have been working on writing an opinion recently. Today I focused our writing lesson on highlighting the difference between a "Fact" and an "Opinion". I wanted the students to walk away knowing that "facts" are what we all KNOW to be true, and that "opinions" are what we THINK or FEEL about something. This video supports our lesson well, so I wanted to share it with all of you so that you can refer back to it if your children are still struggling with "What is a Fact?" and "What is an Opinion?". I hope you like it...and keep on writing!!

Student of the Week: Jordyn!
Last week we celebrated Jordyn as the Student of the Week. She is an amazing student that comes everyday ready to learn. She is well-liked by all, and is very both thoughtful and kind in the classroom. Jordyn enjoys swimming, going to the park, and visiting theme parks like Six Flags and Disneyland. Her favorite food is cake. Her favorite books are "My Little Pony", and she would like a baby Hippo as a pet. When Jordyn grows up she wants to be the President of the United States. We are so thankful to have Jordyn in our classroom and liked getting to know more about her this past week!!

Check out this great resource: Galactic Phonics!!
I found this last year, and it is a great program to work on phonics skills for your kindergarten student.
Everything is broken down into specific skills, and there is a variety of activities for your child to use. Online games, worksheets, etc. It's all here and as far as I can tell it is all FREE (except Letter Sounds, don't do that part)!!
To begin, select the skill you want to do (CVC Words, Consonant Digraphs, Long Vowel Sounds, etc.).
Next, select the resource you wish to use (sh resources, ea resources, oo resources, etc.).
Finally, select the activity you want to play (spelling, matchup, picture belt, multiple choice, etc.)
You can also print out spelling lists, crosswords, and other worksheets to practice away from the computer.
I have added the link to the list on the side, but I am also sharing it here if you want to jump in and explore this program now. I guarantee it is one you will want to keep bookmarked for continued use. Enjoy!!

Student of the Week: Reggie!
This week we are celebrating Reggie as our Student of the Week. Reggie is always happy, and greets us everyday with a big smile! He likes pancakes, basketball, and reading Scooby-Doo books. He loves his family and his dogs (King and Mister). Reggie recently went on a trip with his family to Washington D.C., which he really enjoyed. When he grows up, Reggie would like to be a professional football player. Thank you for sharing all of your cool interests with us Reggie!!
Student of the Week: Dalilah!
Last week we celebrated Dalilah as our Student of the Week. It was great learning about her and getting to meet her pet ferret named Pepper. Dalilah was a terrific line leader and really enjoyed helping out and being a role model for her classmates last week. From her board we learned that she likes strawberries, baseball, and The Little Mermaid. Her family also enjoys the outdoors, and she shared some pics of her family camping, swimming, and fishing.
Thanks for being so awesome, Dalilah!!

Exploring Our Solar System: Planets and Space for Kids
Check out this cool video about our Solar System as we get ready to learn more about the Milky Way Galaxy! Which planet is your favorite? If you could travel in outer space, where would you like to go? Why do you think Earth is the only planet with people, animals, and plants? Discuss these questions and more with your family as we begin our unit on Space!!
