2015 Cordelia Hills Halloween Parade

So umm, yeah, today was just another boring day at Cordelia Hills.

Okay, so maybe not. I mean, this is what they were welcomed to this morning!!
We started off with our Halloween Parade, which I thought went really well. The older students lined the track and cheered and celebrate all the younger students as we paraded around and into the amphitheater to show off our costumes.

Then we headed back to class to engage in Halloween activities all morning. Thank you to the parents that volunteered today in helping us with our Bat Books, our Halloween Crafts, and playing "Hallow-ingo". It was definitely a memorable day, and hopefully one that the students came home eager to share with all of you!!

Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!!

Homemade Transportation Vehicles

Wow, the kids really outdid themselves with this project. We have been studying Transportation in class, and learning about the many kinds of vehicles that help us travel from one place to another. At home, they were asked to find materials that they could use to construct a transportation vehicle model from, and what they came up with were just stunning. Cars, trucks, buses, trains, motorcycles, submarines, and more were created from the minds of these exceptional kids. I truly am blessed to work with such amazing students everyday. Check out these pictures of the projects on display in the Library!!

Student of the Week: Jacob D.

This week we honored our friend Jacob as the Student of the Week. He is a bright and hardworking member of the class. Jacob likes cookies, baseball, Transformers, and his dog Dozer. His favorite places to visit are Disneyland, Barnes and Noble, and the park. Jacob enjoys drawing, hanging out with friends, and eating. When he grows up he would like to be either a firefighter or a police officer.

We love having him in our class and appreciate how he always tries his best!!

Here are some "stupendous" pics of our fabulous "Fancy Nancy", oh, I mean Olivia.
She was our Student of the Week this week, and her mom and step-sister showed up today to surprise us all in a very stylish, book reading of Olivia's favorite book "Fancy Nancy". We also shared her amazing board this week, where we learned that Olivia loves garlic bread and soccer, riding bikes and swimming, climbing things and visiting the beach. Oh yeah, when she grows up she wants to be a Vet that takes care of people's pets. Great job, Miss Olivia!

Astronaut School - Writing without Gravity (sort of)...

Friday we finished off the first week of our Space Unit sharing the Space Books we made at home, watching a BrainPop Jr. video about the Solar System, then trying our hands at working like an Astronaut. We have learned that in space the astronauts do not have chairs and tables to work at. Without gravity they have to be creative in keeping their materials close, and also developing muscle strength to work in tight spaces without gravity to help keep things close.

We taped paper on the underside of their tables, and students had to lay down on the floor and try to draw and label a picture of their favorite planet (or planets). It was very cool watching them adapt to a new learning environment, and they all had a great time with this experiment. Check out some of these great pics of our Future Astonauts!!
