Our Box Troll project and movie day were a great success!!

The students had a terrific time reading, talking, making, and even dressing up like Box Trolls in anticipation of the new movie.  After reading the story to the class and discussing the characters of the story, each child got the chance to create their own box to take home and transform an old toy into a "box troll".  Some of the students even accepted the challenge to make their own Box Troll costume to wear to the movie last Saturday.  We had a lot of fun and explored different ways to reuse old materials like the Box Trolls do in the movie!!

Getting crafty in Mr. Linnet's class!
Exploring new ways to cut cardboard was interesting!
Painting, stencils, stickers, and a whole lot of creativity!!
The Box Troll invasion has begun!!

Boise State Factoid #2: Boise State's Football Team is 94-4 at Home!!

September Focus: Hard Work & Enthusiasm

For those that are unfamiliar with Boise State University, and their unique football field, you will be surprised to know that they have been one of the best Division I Football schools in the country over the past 15 years, thanks largely to their impressive home-field advantage: the blue turf.

The Blue Turf at Albertson's Stadium.

As of September 6, 2014, the Broncos have dominated opponents at home.  The hard work and enthusiasm of the Orange and Blue faithful helped their team win 47 straight home conference games from 1999 to 2011, have a winning streak of 65 regular season games from 2001 to 2011, and went a perfect 40-0 during 10 years as part of the WAC Conference.  The Broncos just finished up their Homecoming Week with another big home victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Go Broncos!!

Using the Five Senses at Home...

Please help reinforce an important Science skill at home by talking with, and encouraging your child to identify various things in/around your home using their five senses.

Today I gave a mini-lesson and read a story to the class that introduced the skill.  I also encouraged the class to try and identify five things using their sense of smell.

Over the next two weeks we will develop our sense of smell, sight, hearing, taste, and touch.  We also hope to identify situations where we might use multiple senses at once (take a bath, watch a movie, eat dinner, etc.).  Understanding and developing these skills will make our students better aware of themselves and their surroundings.

Thanks for helping enrich what we are learning in school at home with your child!!

Homemade BoxTroll Project
Box Troll project for Friday.  Parent volunteers needed for this Friday 10-11am to help with this fun and creative project.  This week we are starting a Language Arts unit on friends, and a social studies unit on rules.  I will read the story of the Boxtrolls first, then let the students make their own character to add to the story.  Character is our skill focus in reading this week.  Not only will this project get us excited for the movie on Saturday, but it aligns with the curriculum goals as well.

We will watch the movie at the first showing on Saturday, September 27th, at the Edwards Theatre in the Fairfield Mall.  The time hasn't been released yet, but going to the first show seemed the easiest to plan for.  Also, I will give out special surprises to all students that dress in costume for the movie (decorate and wear a box like the Boxtrolls, I will do this too!).  Looking forward to a fun week, and to starting fall with a bang!!
