Fun Earth Day event tomorrow at Fairfield Civic Center Pond...

I plan on taking Skylar to participate in this great event.  Hopefully I will see some of you there.  The first 250 kids that come get a free Fishing Pole and get to participate in the kid's Fishing Derby.  If you go, please take some pictures and share them with me.  I will add some of my own with Skylar.

Let's all "Go Green!" and have fun in our community at the same time.  (There will be other Earth Day activities going on downtown if you aren't into fishing).  Fishing registration starts at 7:30am, the rest of the Earth Day events take place from 8-12 noon.  See you there, fellow Conservationists!!

This week's At-Home Project: Make a Color-Mixing Video

This week’s At-Home Project: Make a Color-Mixing Video

Hello Super Students,

This week I wanted to challenge our class to do something very different, and hopefully very fun.  In class we will be exploring colors and learning how to mix primary colors to make secondary colors.

I thought it would be a lot of fun to let you become the teacher as you create your own lesson on mixing colors, then have mom or dad record you teaching your lesson (to the class, to a brother/sister, to anybody you want to).  Have them record the video on their smartphone or tablet, then email me the link so that I can add it to our blog.  This way everyone in class can see your great lesson on mixing colors.

I have posted some videos to our blog to give you ideas, but feel free to get creative and have fun with this project.  Use paint, food coloring, playdoh, tissue paper, anything you want that will allow you to show others how to mix colors.  Try to keep the videos under 5 minutes so that I can post them on the blog (long videos sometimes won’t upload for me).  I’ve never done this project before, so this is not mandatory, just something fun to try out.  I hope that you enjoy it!!

I’m very excited to see what my little teachers have to share with us!

This Week's At-Home Project: Dinosaur ABC's and Make a Poster!

*The Bonus Activity is not mandatory.

To celebrate our fun learning about dinosaurs, I found this great Dinosaur Alphabet and Song from “Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train” at PBS Kids.  I am giving each student a copy of the alphabet and song so that they can practice learning the dinosaur names at home.

The project this week is for each student to create their own dinosaur poster for the letter given.  Each student will have a different letter, and can use whatever materials they wish to make their poster amazing.  On Friday we will share our posters and post them in the room to create a cool new alphabet.

Please draw, paint, or construct a dinosaur on your poster and include the dinosaurs name.  You can use the dinosaur listed on the alphabet chart, or look up a different dinosaur that begins with your letter.

Have fun you super artists!!
