100th Day of School Project - "100" Capes

In anticipation of next week's celebration of the 100th Day of School, our Kindergarten Team decided to have a fun At-Home Project that Mrs. Laurie found on Pinterest.  Each student was given a colorful cape to decorate with 100 items.  Each child can choose anything they want to decorate their cape, as long as they have 100 of them.  The students will then wear their capes to school next Wednesday and share their "100" Capes with their friends during our 100th Day of School Celebration.

Here are some pictures of Brian making and wearing his cape.

Please feel free to send me your pics so that I can include them on the blog.

Check out the Amazing Shoebox Houses our Class made...

...for security reasons, I am choosing not to include the student's names with their houses (many did write house numbers on them and I would like to keep them anonymous.  Have fun finding your house, and feel free to send me your pics if you didn't bring it into school.  Great job class!!

This Week's At-Home Project: Shoebox Houses

This week I have asked my students to create a shoebox replica of their home.  We are learning about Neighborhoods and Communities in the classroom, and this project is always a lot of fun.  Students will bring in their shoebox homes at the end of this week and we will attempt to recreate our Cordelia Community with a 3-D model.  I've done this activity in previous years, and it was so much fun for the students that participated.  We can look at mapping skills, identify how near/far we live from our classmates, and gain a greater sense of connectedness to our community when we realize how close we truly live to one another.

I am providing a copy of the lesson I sent home in the student's Homework Folders in case anyone lost theirs or simply wants to try this activity on their own.  I hope everyone has fun with it!!

Students, don't forget to send my your pics of the completed shoebox homes so that I can post them on the blog.  I will post mine later this week.

Here are two samples of Shoebox Houses I found online.

Shoebox House Project

This week, I am encouraging each child to create their own Shoebox House.  Simply take an old shoebox, wrap it in paper.  Make doors and windows.  Decorate as needed to make this house resemble yours.  Make the house number visible on the front (like at home).  Cut and place the provided label at the bottom of your Shoebox House so we know who it belongs to.

Bring in the project by Friday so that we can build a Shoebox Community in our Classroom.
Happy Building!  -Mr. Linnet

Check out who Jimmiel bumped into on his family's vacation to Hawaii...

...that's right boys and girls, our friend Jimmiel met the Men's Basketball team from Boise State.  They even stopped to take some pictures with him.  How awesome is that?!?
Jimmiel with the 2013-14 BSU Basketball Team!!

If you get a chance, talk to Jimmiel at recess this week and ask him about the Boise State players.  That must have been quite a thrill.  It inspired me to look into their schedule and see if they play any local colleges this year.  Maybe we can set up a trip to watch them play.  Go Orange, Go Big Blue!  Fight, Fight, BSU!!
