This week's Home Project: ABC Mobile

Hey Everyone, here is a sample for this week's Home Project.  Let the creativity flow as your child color, cut, and create their ABC Mobile!!

Step One: Color all the pieces and cut out along the dotted lines.  You may want to cut out the spiral piece for your child (they might cut it all out into small pieces).

Step Two: Assemble the Mobile.  I used the pointy end of a paper clip to make small holes in each piece, then used kite string and tape to assemble.  Feel free to use whatever materials you have to creating your mobile.

Step Three: Display your mobile.  I would love for you send me pictures of your child with their mobile that I can add to our blog.  You can also have them bring it in on Friday to share with the class.  This process took me about an hour (with my son and dog distracting me a bit), so I recommend doing it in smaller parts of time over the week (1st day - coloring, 2nd day - cutting, 3rd day- stringing the pieces, 4th day - assembling the mobile).  Have fun everyone!!

Welcome Everyone to a New School Year!!

I am excited and a little tired, but I am ready for another school year to begin.  I am thankful that so many of you attended the Kindergarten Orientation today, as it is always a pleasure to meet the families of the children I get to spend so much time with.  There are many creative new projects on the horizon for this year, and I am confident that your children will have a blast in my classroom this year.  I have moved back into a Kindergarten classroom, complete with its own bathroom, which is such a relief from the Combination classroom I have spent the past 3 years in!  I am still putting the finishing touches on a couple of display walls and finding permanent storage for the last few boxes of supplies, but all in all the room is "teaching-ready" and I am eager to put it to use with your children starting tomorrow.

Please remember that class begins at 11:05am and ends at 2:40pm.  We will meet and exit school each day at the gate to the Kindergarten Play Area at the front of the school.  I am asking that you do not send your child to school with a backpack, as we do not have the space available for storing them.  You only need to send your child to school with a small snack and maybe a bottle of water.  I will be providing them all with classroom supplies, a Friday Folder to store and return homework and other school papers, and a Book Bag which the children can bring with them to school each day to carry papers, books, and their snack.  The weather will probably still be hot for another week or two, so you will want them to dress comfortably, but please make sure they have sturdy shoes they can work and run around in.  Flip-Flops and open-toed sandals are not permitted at school.  Sneakers are great, Crocks are okay, anything that completely covers their feet.  If you have a daughter, please remember that their skirts need to be long enough to touch their fingertips when their hands are down at their sides, and they cannot wear "spaghetti-straps".  Children can wear hats and caps, but they need to remove them when they come inside.  The school handbook that is coming home tomorrow will cover this and other school rules, so please take the time to read it.

I'm sure that I could ramble on forever and still not provide enough information to answer all the questions you might have, so I will end it with this.  Take the time to review all the documents in your child's Friday Folder tomorrow.  Some of the pages are records that the school would like you to fill out and return.  They are standard documents given at every school in our District.  If you can return them by Friday that would be awesome, but if you need the weekend to review them, just send them back with your child on Monday.  I have to submit them to the office in the first two weeks so they can complete all the records they need to start your child's School File.  If after reading everything you still have questions, you are welcome to come see me or stop by the office and we will do our best to answer them.

I wish you all a pleasant evening.  Read some books to your child, and get them to bed early.  Tomorrow is an important day!!
